A lake and wine tasting? Sign me up! I snagged a Groupon to go to the Buckeye Lake Winery outside of Columbus, Ohio and invited a couple of friends to join Marc and me. The tasting was delicious, beautiful, and I found a new favorite food!
Our GPS lasted the whole drive, but I will warn all those seeking the winery (and lake) that we thought we were lost several times before spotting the tiny wooden winery sign. For the wine tasting, we were seated in a large tasting room with a gorgeous view of Buckeye Lake. The room was airy and light, and we relaxed to enjoy the alcohol 😊
We enjoyed our tasting director and my favorite wine was the Sweet Lake View white wine. The wines were fantastic, I liked more than I normally do (Marc and I are big fans of generally just white and sweet). We found some reds we really enjoyed as well! But the unexpected part of this wine tasting was their fantastic cheese tray?!? Yes! The cheese was fabulous with a great variety of wonderful cheeses, including a coffee cheese and blueberry goat cheese (which happens to now be one of my all-time favorite foods—yes it’s that good!).
We felt a little buzzed after all of that wine … and also didn’t want to leave the lake yet … so we stayed for lunch. We dined outside, lakeside, and it was an excellent decision. I got the French dip sandwich and Marc got the pizza. We give both four stars out of five. Really was anything going to beat the blueberry goat cheese, though?
All in all, we were so glad we got an awesome deal and visited this gem just southeast of Columbus!

Transportation
You’ll probably want to drive yourself, but be careful! It’s kind of out in the backroads and we almost missed the cute signs pointing out the way to the winery! They are pretty low to the ground. We thought for sure we were lost and then we entered a pretty wine oasis. 😊 Service can get spotty, so be sure to download your trip in case your phone drops service!

Safety Tips
Plan for a long afternoon so the wine can have time to work its way out of your bloodstream! We only did the tasting and were feeling the alcohol! So we enjoyed a leisurely lunch. Make sure you have a designated driver or be prepared to enjoy the scenery until it’s safe to drive! #alwaysdrinkresponsibly
